about

All proceeds generated from this album donated to BCI (Bat Conservation International, www.batcon.org). The Ambrosio Cave is an archaeological site which is home to hundreds of fruit bats. This cave is a member of the BCI (Bat Conservation International, www.batcon.org) dedicated to the enduring protection of the world’s 1300+ species of bats and their habitats.

An album of Steff Juniper's field recordings of fruit bats in Cueva De Ambrosio (Ambrosio Cave), located in the Reserva Ecologica Varahicacos (Ecological Preserve) in Varadero, Cuba.

The Ambrosio Cave reflects Indigenous traditions of the region. Many pre-Columbian drawings were discovered here in 1961. The cave stretches over 300 meters with 5 interconnected galleries and contains a total of 72 Indigenous rupestrian rock drawings that are representative of the Taino culture.

The drawings are thought to be more than 2000 years old, and are one of the largest collections of Indigenous pictographs in the Caribbean.

The cave has also been used as a ceremonial site and as a refuge for escaped Afro-Cuban slaves from the 16th century until it was abolished by royal decree on October 7, 1886.

about

Quivering Toronto, Ontario

Steff Juniper creates sound art, noise, and drone to externalize their emotional experience
of anger toward oppressive systems, especially carceral colonial institutions, and
the creation of climate collapse - with haunting vocals, electric cello,
synthesizers, chimes, field recordings, etc.

Requests for collaborations are welcomed and encouraged.
